Women want equality so here it is. You can't scream don't hit me but expect to be treated like everyone else or get special treatment when you fuck up. More women need to get a wake up slap that they have it good right now and to shut the hell up and count their blessings. i could go on but it is late and me typing is a ton of noise.

More to the point, society says yes, but I don't think so, no.

Anyways, I eventually learned that all she wanted was for me to start fighting back. After we broke up, we ended up hanging out one night, and she started hitting me again. Since I had worked up the strength to stand up to her about the emotional abuse and break up with her, I was ready to put a stop to the physical abuse as well, so I punched her in the tit.
She liked that, and hit me back, and we beat the crap out of each other for awhile, laughing.
We made better friends than lovers.
God, I hate that bitch.

Sounds to me like your friend was a little screwed up, and you honestly were way too much of a pushover to have put up with that shit for even 1 week, though I can understand having emotions for someone can cause you to excuse some of their behavior flaws.
Abuse is abuse yo. Interesting story though. One of my own ex gf's smacked me across the face once, very hard, but I broke up with her shortly after that.

In this case, it is correctly used, since our society has a double-standard in that regard: Women are given free reign to hit men 'who deserve it', but a man isn't allowed to retaliate or defend himself.
A tip for all IDers: If you find yourself in such a situation, DON'T PUNCH HER. Use an open palm, choke holds or an armbar, you won't wanna leave any bruises or marks.

woowoow lol legal advice from da neuromancer himself!
Priceless. And yeah, makes sense. t's a tough situation for a guy to be in though, we can't really defend ourselves or face legal / jail consequences. It's a really shitty double standard.

On topic, if someones beating your ass, of course, beat their ass right back. It's a very situational question and it'd be foolish to say it's never alright to hit someone. Generally speaking though, if you want the good guy answer: no, it's never alright to hit a woman. However, if a bitch killed your dog, ran off with all your money, and laughed at your crippling disease while poking you with a stick; I would not blame anyone for punching her dead in the face.

I actually was a serious pushover back then. I had issues, when it came to standing up for myself with women. I don't think I overcame them until I was about 19 or 20.

What's acceptable for one gender is acceptable for the other.
Edit: I thought this was an old idiom... is this a southernism?

No, I understand the idiom, it's just that it can be taken to mean more than one thing in this case (such as two people in the relationship being into hitting or something like that).
And yeah, double standard ahoy!

A girl shot me in the eye with a paper clip on the end of a rubber band when I was in the 6th grade, so I punched her in the face. I was then paddled for hitting a girl. She had a black eye for a week, but I couldn't see properly out of my eye for a month. I've never struck a woman since, and I think I never will, but it still pisses me off thinking about it.
If you instigate violence, I have no problem with you being on the receiving end, regardless of the presence or lack of a penis and testicles.

Agreed completely. If you are an instigator, you are liable to be violence'd yourself, regardless of gender. Well said btw.
