So, a little background on me: I'm rather vocally abhorrent of pretty much any video game made after around the turn of the century or so. My idea of a good time lies solely in games like Super Metroid and... well, Super Metroid. The one modern game that I *have* conceded to is I Wanna Be The Guy, and even then it doesn't really qualify as such since it's basically a throwback to older games.
Anyhow, based on my like of IWBTG, folks on another forum have been endlessly harassing me to play a game called Super Meat Boy, which finally culminated in me being given a free copy and told to play it. All in all, it's not too shabby: the challenge is decent (the "dark world" stages are a particularly nice touch), the wall jumping mechanics are fun, and the soundtrack is pretty metal. Also, my character is a slab of meat who makes squishing noises whenever he moves. It's fucking disgusting.
That said, I think the developers dropped the ball on the opportunity to make branching paths for each world rather than a simple 17-stage requirement to unlock the boss (the fact that you are able to skip stages at all is *way* too much on the forgiving side), and it would be nice if all of the unlockable characters didn't suck. So far, the only ones who are even marginally useful are Commander Rainbow Dash (or whatever the fuck his name is) and Gir from Invader Zim (later replaced by The Kid), and even then they're only useful as a mean of reaching bandages that Meat Boy can't and taking the occasional shortcut to get better times on some stages.
Also, I want to find whoever designed The Kid's third stage and set him on fire.
Super Meat Boy ...why do I explode when I touch salt?
