So I have begun a project on making decent alt-graphics for all the playable characters. This all began when someone random on Discord suggested having redheaded Celes just because. In each spoiler tag I'll put each patch as I make them. In addition, each spoiler tag will have the graphics themselves if you want to import them.
Gi Nattack has been a big help in helping me figure out why the patches weren't working. These ones appear to not cause monsters to explode in graphical insanity.
Redheads (Celes, Sabin, Edgar, Leo)
The first one I made. Credit goes to Bauglir for making the portraits. Celes, Sabin, and Edgar's sprites are altered. Along with Opera Celes and "Chained up" Celes. In addition, a random tree that is used in the end credits is altered slightly since it uses the hair color.
There are NPCs that use this color palette. In my (admittedly short) testing I only saw 1 NPC (who you only see for a very short time) look weird with it.
Fantome Ghost suggested this on Discord and I rather liked it, so I decided to make it. Once again, credit to Bauglir for the portrait. A few other sprites were altered (as you can see below) to not look too bad.
During a randomizer run Shadow's intro caused it to show Interceptor's sprite instead of "shadow's" I thought it was funny and made... this... It swaps the dogs with Shadow's sprite and Shadow's sprite with the dogs. Enemy sprites and interceptor's in-combat trigger are unaffected.
The only known issue is that the ninja sprite doesn't like something about being used as a dog sprite, so it looks a little weird.
For a while I was trying to make something more ambitious for myself, in having a more full sprite edit instead of recoloring and minor tweaks. I made Locke a cosplay outfit. I'm not actually all that happy with it, but It was the best I could manage to make and I feel it was good enough to post. This one doesn't come with a portrait.
Early in development, I tried to turn Terra blonde like in her official artwork. I was able to acceptably modify the other sprites that used the same palette, but ran into a problem in the Esper World where it's assigned to one of the wolf NPCs. I scrapped the idea at that point.
Ah yeah. I see that one of the wolf-men sprites uses her hair color for his pants. One of the reasons I gave her green armor was because I found that few sprites made use of the default colors on her armor, so that I could modify those colors more freely.
Of course, that doesn't mean that I didn't miss something that looks completely terrible.
After doing some troubleshooting with Gi Nattak, we he figured out why my patches were somehow breaking things. I had made them for vanilla FF6 and somewhere along the line BNW changes the data for sprites (we suspect Kaizer Dragon).
Updated the main post with proper patches and shiny new formatting.
